SEGUIN, Texas -- Saturday morning at the 2018 Texas Lutheran University Bulldog Invitational, the TLU Women's and Men's Cross Country squads each grabbed team titles, and Bulldog junior Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) collected the men's individual crown.
The TLU Women scored 30 points and finished in front of the University of Dallas (42), Concordia Texas (77), and Schreiner University (91).
The TLU Men scored 37 points and took the title in front of the University of Dallas (49), Concordia Texas (49), and Schreiner (94).
Calderon crossed the line well ahead of his closest challengers. Calderon won with a 5K time of 17 minutes, 11.19 seconds. He won by just over 36 seconds.
The Bulldogs also received top-five placements from Cassius Serff-Roberts (Austin/Akins) and Corey Rudacille (Marion/Marion). Serff-Roberts came home in third with a time of 18:10.02, and Rudacile was fourth in 18:16.24.
The Bulldogs' fourth and fifth runners, Hector Hornedo (San Antonio/Antonian) and Mark Mainez II (San Antonio/Central Catholic), finished in 18:47.09 and 20:46.68, respectively.
TLU junior Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) took second overall with a 5K time of 21 minutes, 0.78 seconds.
Hannah Martinez (Alice/Alice) and Ciara Rodriguez (Uvalde/Uvalde) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, with times of 21:43.45 and 22:22.85.
Jackie Garcia (San Antonio/Cornerstone) and Brooke Kloesel (Shiner/Shiner) rounded out TLU's top five with times of 22:48.08 and 23:06.09, respectively, for finishes of eighth and 10th.
Both TLU cross country squads will be in action next Saturday at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational. The races will be contested at Windcrest Golf Club in San Antonio.
