TLU Football's Longoria, Porter advance to Academic All-America® national ballot

SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran Football put two student-athletes – defensive end Manny Longoria and punter Justice Porter – onto the 2019 Academic All-District® Football Team for District 8.

Longoria (Geronimo/Navarro) and Porter (Cypress/Cypress Ridge) advance to the Academic All-America® Football national ballot for NCAA Division III. 

Longoria, a 2018 Academic All-American®, was named to the Academic All-District® Football Team for a third consecutive year.

Porter received the Academic All-District® honor in his first year of eligibility. Porter is a sophomore. First-year collegiate athletes are not eligible for nomination.

Porter was the only sophomore named to the Academic All-District® team in District 8 this year.

Longoria, TLU's D3-era career leader for sacks and tackles for loss, is an education major with a mathematics emphasis. He holds a 3.70 grade point average.

Porter, a two-year starter at punter, has a 3.57 GPA in business management.

Longoria has played in 34 career games and collected 24.5 sacks for 158 yards and 45.0 tackles for loss for 223 yards.

Longoria has forced four fumbles, recovered three, and scored two defensive touchdowns, including a 39-yard fumble recovery for a score this season in the road win over then-No. 6 Hardin-Simmons.

This year, Longoria has a career-best 38 total tackles to go along with six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

Porter has punted in 17 career games and in all nine games this year. In 2019, Porter averaged 35.5 yards per punt, and he has a long of 59.

Porter has put eight punts inside the opponents' 20, and he has forced four fair catches. In his career, he has a 37.5 yards per punt average with 24 career punts downed inside the opponents' 20.

The 2019 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First and Second Team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
