The University of Texas at Tyler won the 2010 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon over Mississippi College.

Texas-Tyler shortstop Aaron McCain hit a two-run triple in the top of the 12th inning to break a 3-3 tie. McCain was named the conference tournament Most Valuable Player.

TLU shortstop Chris Green (Austin/Bowie/Concordia Texas) was named to the ASC All-Tournament Team.

Texas Lutheran finished third in the tournament with a 1-2 record in the championship round and a 3-2 overall record in the championship tournament series.

The Bulldogs lost twice to conference runner-up Mississippi College in the championship round of the tournament. Both losses to MC, ranked as high as No. 8 in a recent national poll, came in extra innings.

TLU lost 9-5 in 10 innings on Friday and fell 9-8 in 11 innings in a game that started Saturday afternoon and ended Sunday morning. The game was suspended after nine innings, with the team tied at 8-8, due to darkness Saturday evening.

Texas-Tyler received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships with the conference tournament title.

Mississippi College must wait to hear if it receives an at-large bid to the tournament.

TLU's season is likely over. The Bulldogs were sixth in the latest NCAA West Region rankings. MC was fourth in those same rankings. Only once has the ASC received more than one bid to the NCAA DIII Baseball Championships.
