Aufderhaar, Orosey, Stetler named TLU Student-Athletes of the Year
Allen, Nokelby, Ybarra also collect major honors at TLU Athletics Awards Program

SEGUIN, Texas -- Senior golfer Angela Aufderhaar, junior volleyball player Jessica Stetler, and sophomore baseball player Brad Orosey were named Texas Lutheran Student-Athletes of the Year during the 2009-10 TLU Athletics Awards Program on Sunday.
Senior student-athletes Jacqueline Allen and Ryan Nokelby were named TLU Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and Allen and junior Karl Ybarra were selected as TLU Sportsmanship Student-Athletes of the Year.
Bill Lehman, TLU's retiring head coach for women's and men's tennis, was honored for his years of service to TLU, and the TLU Baseball Team and the TLU Women's Track & Field Team were recognized for their recent championships.
On Saturday, TLU Baseball won its eighth American Southwest Conference West Division title in 10 years. Also on Saturday, the TLU Women's Track & Field Team won its second conference crown in school history. The 2010 title adds to the university's 2005 ASC title.
Academic All-Conference, All-Conference, All-West Division, ASC Sportsmanship, Distinguished Academic All-Conference, and ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District award winners were also recognized.
Watches were presented to May and summer graduating seniors.
Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin) and Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) were each named TLU Female Student-Athletes of the Year after a tie in the voting among staff members and coaches in the TLU Department of Athletics.
Aufderhaar was the 2009 ASC runner-up and a 2010 ASC All-Conference Second Team award winner. Aufderhaar was twice named the Women's Golf Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. In the 2009-10 golf season, Aufderhaar won two tournament and posted individual finishes of second, third, and fourth in three other tournaments. She is a three-time Academic All-ASC selection.
Stetler, a three-year starter on the women's volleyball team, was named to the 2009 American Southwest Conference All-Conference Team and to the First Team All-ASC West Division. Stetler helped the Bulldogs to the 2007, 2008, and 2009 ASC Championship Tournaments. The Bulldogs were ASC Champions in 2007 and ASC semi-finalists in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, Stetler led the Bulldogs in kills (351) and in kills per game (3.44), and she recorded 356 digs and 27 aces. Stetler was a 2008 American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American. She has been twice named Academic All-ASC selection.
Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) has been TLU's ace of the pitching staff for two seasons. Only a sophomore, Orosey has compiled a 20-2 record with the Bulldogs. He has guided TLU to back-to-back ASC West Division titles and to a pair of ASC Championship Tournament appearances. Orosey was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2009. In 2010, Orosey is 10-1 with an ERA of 2.21. He leads the ASC in six different pitching categories, and he currently ranks second in the NCAA Division III in ERA and strikeouts.
Allen (Katy/Mayde Creek) is a four-year letterwinner with the TLU women's cross country and women's track and field team. A three-time Academic All-ASC selection in both sports, Allen also was a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for the women's cross country team and the women's track and field team. She has been an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America nominee three times.
In Allen's sportsmanship nomination, Head Women's Track & Field and Head Women's Cross Country Coach Patrick Zarate said: "She would do any thing you would ask her to do. She is a great team member. If there is one person that we would want to represent our track and field program or our cross country program, it would be her."
Nokelby (Santa Fe, Texas/Santa Fe) is the all-time hits leader at TLU, and he is in the race for the all-time hits record in the conference. A career .388 hitter, Nokelby was an ESPN The Magazine Academic First Team All-District selection in 2008 and a Second Team All-District selection in 2009. He is a four-year starter and has played in every game of his TLU baseball career.
Nokelby has led the Bulldogs to the baseball post-season in three of four seasons, and he is a member of three ASC West Division Championship squads. Nokelby was a member of TLU's 2007 ASC Championship and NCAA Division III West Region squad. He was an All-West Region selection in 2007 and a First Team Rawlings Gold Glove All-West Region selection. Nokelby has been named to the Academic All-ASC three times.
Ybarra (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) is a junior and three-year letterman for the men's soccer team. He was named to the All-ASC Third Team in 2009. He played and started in all 17 matches as a defender and midfielder. In Ybarra's sportsmanship nomination, TLU Head Men's Soccer Coach Eddie Salazar said: "(Karl) does the right things every day in training and in game-time preparation. He sends a strong message by his own actions as to how we want our players to act."
