GEORGETOWN, Texas – Texas Lutheran and Southwestern split Tuesday’s non-conference doubleheader as the Pirates took game one 9-5 and TLU won game two 5-3.

In game one, Southwestern scored five runs in the bottom of the third to break open a 3-3 game.

In game two, the Bulldogs rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth for a come-from-behind road victory.

In TLU’s victory, Brigitte Neumann and Melissa Stewart each drove home a run in the fifth. Neumann scored Megan Carmichael on a fielder’s choice, and Stewart knocked in Cindy Trevino with a single.

After Neumann and Stewart aided in tying the game at 3-3, Trevino and Amanda Edwards put the Bulldogs in front to stay with a pair of RBI groundouts.

Carmichael collected the TLU pitching victory in game two. The freshman from Yoakum improved to 3-2 with a complete-game performance. She scattered five hits and four walks and allowed only two earned runs.

TLU moved its overall record to 5-7 with the split. Southwestern now stands at 6-5.

The Bulldogs do not play again until one week from today when they host Midland Lutheran for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one of the twin bill is set for a 1 p.m. start at Morck Field
