FARMER’S BRANCH, Texas – Texas Lutheran sophomore Brigitte Neumann (San Antonio/Incarnate Word H.S.) tossed a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over the University of the Ozarks on Friday afternoon.

Neumann allowed a hit with two outs in the top of the seventh. Kelsey Mefford singled to center field to break up the no-hit bid. Neumann was aiming for the second no-hitter of her short TLU career. She tossed a no-hitter last season against Sul Ross State.

TLU went 1-1 on the first day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament in Farmer’s Branch, Texas. The Bulldogs fell 10-0 to the University of Texas at Dallas in the morning game.

The Bulldogs’ overall record now stands at 3-5 overall. Texas-Dallas went to 6-1 with the morning win over TLU, and Ozarks dropped to 1-5 with the afternoon loss to the Bulldogs.

Neumann improved to 1-2 in 2010 with the pitching victory. Neumann struck out just one against Ozarks, but she coaxed the Lady Eagles into 10 fly-outs and 10 ground-outs.

TLU did not commit an error against Ozarks, and Neumann faced only two over the minimum after allowing a walk and the lone hit.

All three runs scored by the Bulldogs against Ozarks were unearned because of three Ozarks errors. Neumann drove in a run to help her own cause, and Nicole went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Amanda Edwards, TLU’s designated player, went 2-for-2 in the win over Ozarks.
