SEGUIN, Texas –- Texas Lutheran sophomore Brad Orosey has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
Orosey, a right-hander from Houston (Cypress Creek), struck out a career-best 14 batters and did not issue a walk in Friday’s 17-3 win over McMurry.
Orosey went eight innings against McMurry and did not allow a run. He scattered three singles in the American Southwest Conference victory.
Orosey improved to 6-0 this season and to 16-1 as a Bulldog. He lowered his 2010 earned run average to 1.15. He has struck out 48 batters in 39 innings, and opponents are batting just .154 against him.
TLU enters Wednesday’s non-conference game against Concordia Nebraska with a 14-5 overall record. Wednesday’s game is set for a 1 p.m. start at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field. TLU will have live video and live stats for Wednesday’s game.
The Bulldogs are 2-1 in ASC West play and sit in a tie for second place in the division. TLU returns to ASC West action on Friday and Saturday with a three-game series against Howard Payne.
All three games against HPU will be played at Katt-Isbel Field. Friday’s game starts at 2 p.m., and Saturday’s doubleheader starts at noon. TLU will have live video and live stats for Saturday’s doubleheader.

Hardin-Simmons junior first baseman/designated hitter Taylor Berlin (Tomball, TX / THS) went 10-for-18 with five doubles, a home run and six RBIs over a 3-2 week, including a series win over ASC West Division opponent Mary Hardin-Baylor. Berlin also walked five times and scored five runs. He had a stretch of reaching base in 10 straight plate appearances, including four extra-base hits.
Brennyn Smith, 2B, Fr., Sul Ross State
Sul Ross State freshman second baseman Brennyn Smith (Montgomery, TX / MHS) went 8-for-12 with two home runs, a double and 10 RBIs to fuel an ASC West Division sweep of Schreiner. Smith also scored six times, walked once and struck out just one time. Smith, who leads the conference in RBIs, went 5-for-5 in the series opener with a grand slam in his first at-bat.

Texas Lutheran sophomore right-hander Brad Orosey (Houston, TX / Cypress Creek HS) struck out a career-high 14 batters over eight shutout innings to defeat McMurry in a West Division opener for both teams. Orosey, who takes the division’s top weekly pitching award for the third time this season, scattered three hits and did not walk a batter. He improved to 6-0 through six starts and lowered his ASC-leading ERA to 1.15.

LeTourneau freshman outfielder Logan Smith (Terrell, TX / THS) went 14-for-29 with four doubles, a home run, a triple and six RBIs to pace a 4-1 week. Smith, who had four multi-hit games, did not strike out once and scored five runs. He also stole four bases.

Matt Sparks, RHP, Sr., Texas-Tyler
Texas-Tyler senior right-hander Matt Sparks (Owasso, OK / OHS) tossed a complete-game with a career-high 12 strikeouts in an ASC East series-opening win over East Texas Baptist. Sparks scattered eight hits and walked just one batter over the nine frames. He also tossed a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout earlier in the week against nationally-ranked Marietta
