SHERMAN, Texas – Sean Muder’s RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Austin College Kangaroos to a 12-11 win over Texas Lutheran on Sunday afternoon.
Austin College’s win prevented a three-game sweep by Texas Lutheran. TLU won games one and two of the series on Saturday with 14-4 and 8-1 victories.
TLU dropped to 2-1 with the non-conference loss. Austin College moved to 2-3 overall.
TLU trailed throughout the game. The Bulldogs fell behind 5-2 after two innings and 11-8 after seven innings.
The Bulldogs rallied to tie the game with three runs in the top of the eighth. Darwin Lucero brought TLU within two runs with an RBI single, and Clay Childress knotted the game at 11 with a two-run double that scored Lucero and Cody Miller.
Childress collected three hits and four RBI, and Lucero went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
TLU’s sophomore catcher Evan Curtis homered and drove in two runs. Andrew Femath, Ryan Nokelby, and Miller each scored twice.
The Bulldogs committed seven errors, and those errors led to three unearned runs.
Bulldog starter Travis Staggs lasted just 1-1/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned). TLU closer Tom Hembree took the loss for TLU. Hembree pitched three complete innings and allowed a lone run, the Kangaroos’ run in the 10th.
TLU’s next game is set for 3 p.m. Friday in Georgetown, Texas against Southwestern University.
