Bulldogs open baseball season with twin bill sweep of AC

SHERMAN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs opened the 2010 baseball season with 14-4 and 8-1 victories over Austin College on Saturday afternoon.
TLU (2-0) received strong pitching performances from Brad Orosey (game 1) and Jeremiah Steinert (game 2). Orosey, a Preseason First Team All-American, struck out seven and walked just one in five innings of work. The sophomore right-hander moved to 1-0.
Steinert (1-0) pitched a complete game and allowed only three hits and one earned run. The senior right-hander struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Designated hitter Cody Miller homered in game one for TLU, and second baseman Andrew Femath went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and three runs. Left fielder Darwin Lucero, third baseman Brian Wheaton and right fielder Ryan Nokelby each collected two hits in game one.
In game two, Nokelby recorded two more hits, and Miller added a double and an RBI. Catcher Andy Griffith went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Austin College dropped to 1-3 overall.
TLU and AC play a single, 9-inning game on Sunday. First pitch in Sherman is set for noon.
