David W. Starch, M.D. (

Dr. Starch serves as the Head Team Physician for Texas Lutheran athletics and is very involved in the
educational program. Athletic training students interact with Dr. Starch through athletic training room clinics, athlete office visits, Saturday morning sports medicine clinics, surgical procedures, and as a guest lecturer in multiple courses. Dr. Starch is licensed by the State of Texas and Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. After receiving his medical degree from Texas Tech University, Dr. Starch completed a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship, where he served as a team physician for the Houston Astros, Rockets, Comets, and the University of Houston.

Brian Stigall, M.D. (

Dr. Stigall assists Dr. Starch in provision of medical services for Texas Lutheran athletes. He is a family practitioner and sports medicine physician, and is in private practice in New Braunfels. Dr. Stigall also is involved in the athletic training education program through athletic training room clinics, athlete office visits, and as a guest lecturer in various courses. In addition, students serve a clinical rotation in his clinic as a part of their General Medical rotation. Dr. Stigall attended medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed is residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital and Clinic. He served as a sports medicine fellow at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Physician Assistant
Mike Soulas, MPAS, PA-C
Soulas is a physician assistant under Dr. Starch and assists in the delivery of medical services for
Texas Lutheran athletes. He is involved educationally in athletic training room clinics, athlete office visits, and surgical procedures. Mike attended The University of Texas at San Antonio where he obtained his undergraduate degree and then completed his Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Licensed to practice in the State of Texas, Mike is certified by the National Commision on Certification of Physician Assistants.
