SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran sophomore right-hander Brad Orosey pitched the 13th no-hitter in Bulldog baseball history in a 10-0 win over Southwestern University on Saturday.
In game one of the doubleheader at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) struck out six and walked three in moving to 2-0 on the season.
Orosey’s no-hitter was the first by a Bulldog since Wes Kolle’s no-hitter on March 5, 2001. Kolle no-hit Mississippi College in a nine-inning game.
Orosey, a preseason First Team All-American by D3baseball.com, improved his TLU career record to 12-1. Orosey was an Honorable Mention All-American as selected by D3baseball.com after a 10-1 record in 2009.
TLU took both games of the doubleheader Saturday against Southwestern. TLU won the second game 2-1 as left fielder Darwin Lucero (Gatesville/Hill JC) threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game.
Lucero also drove home a run for TLU in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.
Southwestern dropped to 2-6 overall with the two losses.
TLU moved to 4-1 overall with the non-conference wins.
Cody Miller, Lucero and Chris Green each homered for TLU in the game one victory. All three home runs came in TLU’s six-run third. The Bulldogs finished the first game with 13 hits.
TLU was out-hit 8-3 in game two, but Bulldog starter Jeremiah Steinert (Sugar Land/Dulles), Patrick Pederson (Pearland/Pearland), Louis Lee (Cypress/Eastfield JC) and Tom Hembree kept Southwestern scoreless for eight of the nine innings.
Hembree registered the win to go to 1-1.
The Bulldogs return to action Monday with a 2 p.m. home game against Brandeis.
