Alan Roberts joined the Texas Lutheran University football coaching staff in January 2010. Roberts returns to his alma mater as the assistant coach for the defensive secondary. Roberts graduated from TLU in 1978 with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education.
Roberts was a squad member on Texas Lutheran's NAIA-II National Championship football squads in 1974 and 1975.
Roberts earned his master's degree in school administration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake in 1985.
Roberts came to TLU from B.F. Terry High School in Rosenberg, Texas. Roberts was the assistant head football coach and the defensive coordinator for B.F. Terry. Roberts was on the coaching staff as Terry went to the state playoffs in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009. Terry won district championships in 2002 and 2009 and went to the regional finals in 2005 and 2008.
Prior to this time at B.F. Terry, Roberts was an assistant football coach and head track and field coach at Odessa Permian High School. He was also the defensive coordinator at El Campo High School. Roberts was the head football coach and athletic director at Port Lavaca Calhoun High School and an assistant head football coach at Sugar Land Clements. Roberts has also worked at Pasadena Dobie High School, Galena Park North Shore High School, and at Cuero High School.
Roberts was the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003, and he was the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year for 2002 and 2003.
Roberts is married and has four children - two girls and two boys.
